Happy New Year! What is your New Year’s Resolution? As HOPE students and staff return from the winter break, they resolve to maintain a positive and productive outlook for 2013.

The school ushered in new leadership as Cathy Russo was appointed principal. Mrs Russo brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience; she has been a part of the HOPE family for four years as the Director of Instruction and French teacher. We will miss Mr “Ozzie” Wright and wish him much success as he continues his journey in education.

The PSSAs are now phased out, and the Keystone Exams are in - the Keystones are end-of-course assessments designed to assess proficiency in various subjects. During the 2012-2013 school years the following Keystone Exams will be available: Algebra I, Literature and Biology. In future years, additional Keystones will be administered. The Keystones are one component of Pennsylvania’s proposed system of high school graduation requirements, helping school districts guide students toward meeting state standards. HOPE staff will be administering the Keystone Exams for several weeks during January.

In light of random acts of violence that unfolded around the country in 2012, the staff at HOPE Charter School will continue to be vigilant with security. Extra precautionary measures will be taken to ensure that HOPE Charter School remains safe and secure for all students, staff, parents and visitors.

Finally, Nobel Peace Prize winner and Civil Rights Activist Reverend Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday will be observed on January 21, 2013. Dr. King stood for unity and non-violence; let’s continue to honor the dream.
