Latest NewsHOPE CHARTER BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAMUnder the guidance of Coach Gary Hines and Assistant Coach Melvin Davis, the varsity boys' basketball team has had a successful season. Compared to last year's team, this team is composed of mostly underclassmen with only three graduating seniors. Yet, this is second year (out of 3) of the team making the Philadelphia Public League Playoffs with an ending season record of 6-4 in Division C. The coaching staff would like to extend their gratitude to the Executive Board for allowing the team to participate in the BB&T Basketball Tournament in Gastonia, NC. Fifteen ball players and five chaperones traveled to Gastonia, NC where the team won 2 out of 3 scheduled games. The team also participated in a local Kappa Klassic Basketball Tournament in Bear, DE, where one ball player (Briel Scott) received a $250 scholarship for outstanding performance. Two of the team's graduating seniors (Tauheed Young and Kyree Hanford) received the William H. Markward Memorial Award for outstanding performance as a student athlete. |
